Concha (Turbinate) Surgery

The structures called turbinates are organs that play an active role in the regulation of respiratory function by heating and humidifying the air we breathe through the nose. The most common clinical condition is turbinate hypertrophy (enlargement), which almost always occurs in the inferior turbinate. Although this growth in the inferior turbinate is often of soft tissue origin, it can also be bone growth or growth of both structures. Concha disorders usually cause nasal congestion. During aesthetic nose surgery, large turbinates are reduced in size. However, if allergy underlying the regrowth may be observed again after surgery.
